ATI Allstars Shine

The ATI Allstars team once again entered into the summer spirit and took part in the University Varsity Games.
The Allstars were looking good after streaming through the heats with the quickest time for their first event, the three–legged race. Sadly, in the fourth and final length, whilst still leading, the three legs of Lewis and Jay became four in a freak accident and the Allstars missed a podium position!

The Allstars went on to win the sack race, the egg-and-spoon race, and the majority of their head-to-head battles. The Allstars posted the fastest obstacle course time out of all the other teams taking part in the event.

The toughest battle was in the welly-wanging, which went to extra-time after a tie. Sadly the Allstars lost after a monster deciding throw by the team captains fell just out of bounds. Finally, Charles Opoku wowed the supporters with his lightning speed to win the 100 meters.

The team all agreed that it was a "fabulous afternoon" and they are looking forward to retaining their crown in a year’s time.

Volleyball Team Win UniSport Volleyball League

Congratulations to the ATI Allstars volleyball team who recently won the UniSport volleyball leaque for the eighth time!  Since the team started competing a few years ago they have only lost one final and that was on a two point difference.  Team Captain David Thomson said "It's been fantastic that we have kept consistency in our game over the last few years and performed well in all of the competitions we have taken part in.  The ATI is doing well in a variety of sports but volleyball is probably the most successful.  We have some excellent players and I hope we will keep winning trophies in the coming years."

ATI Allstars Clinch League Title

The ATI's 6-a-side football team recently topped the third division of the Surrey Research Park Football league in style.  The team, mananged by first year ATI PhD student Charles Opoku, went into their final game of the season knowing that they could finish equal 1st on points with their closest rivals, but would need to overturn a goal difference of 8 in order to take the title.  Fortunately for the Allstars the goals came thick and fast and they ended up winning 10-1.  The team consists mainly of ATI PhD and MSc students including Tom Connolly, Veebishna Devendran, Martin Hughes, Charles Opoku, David Thomson, Lewis Wong and Kevin Yang.

Staff Sports Day

A University Staff Sports Day was held on Thursday 3rd July 2008.   A team of ten represented the ATI in a variety of races such as the all important egg and spoon, ultimate frisbee and penalty shoot out .  The event proved to be great fun, though sadly the great British weather intervened before the final events could be completed.

The ATI team spirit shone through, though the team were reportedly "robbed" of victory in the sack race as the sack was too small!
